Organ Restoration Project

Published on May 30, 2025

Great News. Dún Bleisce Historical & Literary Society in collaboration with Doon Parish Choir  have received funding approval from The Heritage Council for the restoration and installation in St Patrick’s Parish Church of the pipe organ currently located in the disused convent church. This project will commence in the coming months. In reviewing the application, the following feedback was noted by the Heritage Council:  This project holds significant cultural importance as it focuses on the restoration and reuse of a finely crafted Victorian pipe organ, preserving a vital piece of musical and historical heritage. The organ, with its rich history and connection to the Convent of Mercy, meets all the criteria for conservation and aligns with the principles of safeguarding tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Its relocation to St. Patrick’s Parish Church ensures accessibility and inclusion, allowing future generations to appreciate its historical value and enjoy its soulful music in congregational worship and community events. An organised, experienced, and competent group will ensure this project is seen through to completion. A distinctive and interesting idea for National Heritage Week.
